Kangana Ranaut was born on born March 20th, 1987, in the hill town of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh to Asha, a school teacher and Amardeep, a businessman. She completed most of her schooling from Shimla. She has been studying science (medicine)and engineering, however these subjects failed to interest her. In a passion for acting, Kangana traveled to Delhi, where she did several theatre shows.
After this, she decided to take another step ahead. She came to Mumbai, to try her luck in movies. She was unsuccessful for quite a while, until she received the offer for Mahesh Bhatt's 2006 film Gangster.
This event occurred in September 2005, while Kangana and her friends were sipping coffee at a cafe in Mumbai. Director Anurag Basu, from the fame of "Murder (film)", decided to call her for an audition. Fortunately, they liked her work and decided to cast her as as the main female protagonist in the film.
