Sonam Kapoor News
Sonam Kapoor was born on June 9, 1985 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
She is an Indian actress who appears in Bollywood movies.
Considered by many to be a talented and upcoming actress, Sonam may have been in the right place at the right time.
She appeared with Abhishek Bachchan in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Delhi-6.
The movie was released on February 20, 2009 and did well at the box office, but the film got generally mixed reception from the Indian critics.
However, after the Oscar performance of the Mumbai-set "Slumdog Millionaire" world critics have gotten behind the movie.
The Bollywood film was praised by the Los Angeles Times and the Village Voice in New York City.
Of course it hasn't hurt that the movies music was composed by Oscar winner A.R. Rahman.
And even better is the fact that Sonam's father Anil Kapoor was also in Slumdog Millionaire.
Sonam is now set to star in Anil Kapoor’s newest production, ‘Ayesha’, an adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel ‘Emma’.

Art Imitates Life for Kareena Kapoor
Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor was in Philadelphia shooting an untitled Renzil D'Silva project with Saif Ali Khan and Karan Johar when the devastating atacks in Mumbai happened.
As often occurs, art imitated life for Kareena, but in a horrifying way.
Again, my thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this tragedy.
Kareena shoots a film based on terror in these hard times
When the heinous terror strike hit Mumbai, little did Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor know that terrorism would take a toll on the city when she would be away shooting for a similar terror-related film in Philadelphia.
On hearing the news of the attack, a worried Kareena spent her valuable time in the US, making anxious calls back home. The actress had been shooting for some horrifying terrorism scenes the previous day, for Karan Johar's new film.

'I never got a chance to understand Kareena', Bipasha Basu
'I never got a chance to understand Kareena'
While her new found friendship with one time foe Kareena Kapoor remains a mystery for many, actress Bipasha Basu admits that she never got a chance to understand Kareena.
"I never had a chance to understand her but now the awkwardness is gone," the dusky actress said on the sidelines of an event.
Both the actresses were said to have a good time at a recent party organised by Kareena for beau Saif Ali Khan. It is said that both could not see eye to eye during the shooting of Ajnabee, Bipasha's first Bollywood picture.

Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen plans autobiography
Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen has decided to write an autobiography with the tentative title “The Butterfly.”
A former Miss Universe, Sen said she has already begun writing chapters, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
She said the inspiration for the title came from one of her favourite sayings — “what the world calls the end of a caterpillar’s life, God calls a butterfly.”
“I have written some portions of it,” The Times of India newspaper quoted Sen saying. “And yes, the working title is called ‘The Butterfly.’”
A model-turned-actress, Sen was crowned Miss Universe in 1994 and has since acted in 30 Hindi-language movies.
Sen plays a widow in an updated version of a Bollywood classic “Sholay,” or “Embers,” to be released this week.
She played a rock star in her last film, “Zindagi Rocks,” or “Life Rocks,” and a prostitute in an earlier movie “Chingari,” which also translates to “Embers” in Hindi.

Katrina Kaif is not dependent on Salman Khan

Katrina Kaif is not dependent on Salman Khan
09th June 2007 20.27 IST
By Aparajita Ghosh
Katrina Kaif says the reports of beau Salman Khan recommending her to filmmakers in Bollywood are fabricated by gossipmongers.
Though Katrina has been part of successful films in the past, Namastey London is truly her first hit flick in Bollywood. Today, Katrina has got a firm foothold in tinsel town, but her detractors still seem bent to pull her down.
For example, stories have been in circulation that Salman has been recommending Katrina to filmmakers. It has been alleged that Katrina got one of the lead roles in David Dhawan’s ‘Partner’ solely on Salman’s insistence. There have also been talks that whenever Katrina has some problem while working with any filmmaker, she promptly calls Salman to help her out.

Indian Film Actress and Model - Riya Sen

Riya Sen (born Riya Dev Varma in Kolkata, India on January 24, 1981) is an Indian film actress and model. She is often regarded as a sex symbol.
Riya Sen is the grand daughter of Suchitra Sen, a legend in Bengali cinema, and daughter of Moonmoon Sen, a former actress. Before moving to Mumbai, she lived with her parents and sister Raima Sen, also an actress, in Kolkata. Her father Bharat Dev Varma belongs to the illustrious royal family of Tripura. Her paternal grandmother Ila Devi, was the princess of Cooch Behar, whose younger sister Gayatri Devi is the Maharani of Jaipur.
Before entering show business, she studied at Loreto House and Rani Birla College, both in Kolkata, but dropped out of both institutions. She also briefly studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology. Since her Bollywood debut, she has moved from Kolkata to Juhu in Mumbai.
Many have commented on the strong resemblence between her and her mother, Moonmoon Sen, a sex symbol in her time. However, her sister Raima has a very different image from them both.
Riya Sen first appeared as a child artiste in the film Vishkanya, where she played the role of the young Pooja Bedi. At the age of 15 she was cast in a major role in Bharathiraaja's Tamil film Tajmahal. Her Bollywood film debut was supposed to have been in Love You Hamesha, opposite Akshaye Khanna, but the film was stalled and she ultimately made her debut in N. Chandra's low-budget comedy Style.
Though Style met with success at the box office, most of her other films have not done as well. An exception was Jhankaar Beats, another comedy in which she co-starred with Shayan Munshi, Juhi Chawla, Rahul Bose, Rinke Khanna and Sanjay Suri. Most of her appearances have been item numbers and cameos. Her few leading roles have been in low-budget films
Riya has also appeared in Bengali,Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam and even English films. She was slated to appear in Anjan Dutta's The Bong Connection, with her sister, but was eventually dropped from the project. She was replaced by Peeya Rai Chaudhary. It would have been the second time the two sisters acted together, after director Ajai Sinha's The Bachelor. She has also appeared in a Bangladeshi film, titled Money Porey Tomakey. Her most notable South Indian film to date has been director Santhosh Sivan's Ananthabhadram, which was also the director's first Malayalam venture.
Riya became a popular model when she appeared in numerous music videos for songs by popular singers, including Asha Bhonsle, Falguni Pathak, Jagjit Singh and Sonu Nigam. She was one of many Bollywood stars who appeared in Haath Se Haath Mila an anti-HIV/AIDS music video.
She is also an advertising model. A high point of her modeling career was when she replaced Lisa Ray as the Lakmé Girl, but she has since been replaced by Yana Gupta. Her other notable assignments include Colgate, Limca, Vatika, Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate, and Margarita King.
Riya has appeared on the cover of a number of magazines. In 2004, she was featured partially nude in leading Indian photographer Dabboo Ratnani's annual calendar, which is a major happening in the Indian glamor industry. In Daboo's words, "Her mother saw it much later, after the calendar released. She thought it was too sexy, and Riya shouldn’t have done it. But the response to the photograph was superb. Riya was so thrilled that for her next ad campaign, she asked me to light her up like I did in this." She is the only female face to be featured on the calendar on four consecutive years (2004-2007).
Though the depiction of kissing on screen was (and still is, to some extent) considered inappropriate in India, Riya has regularly shared on-screen kisses with her co-stars (example Siliilay and Style).
Shortly before the release of her film Silsiilay in which she starred with boyfriend Ashmit Patel, a clip was circulated through Multimedia Messaging Services and the Internet, that showed the two in intimate situations. This was one of a number of such scandals that erupted where celebrities were caught in compromising situations using cameraphones. Shortly after this incident, the couple split up. The actress has however denied that it was her in the MMS clip.
She is trained in Kathak ( classical dance form of India) and kickboxing.
During the filming of Shaadi No. 1, she was hit by a motorbike, and supposedly had a near death experience.

Rimi Sen - Bollywood Actress

Rimi Sen, born September 21, 1981 in Kolkata, India, is an Indian actress working in the Bollywood film industry. In an interview with journalist Vickey Lalwani, Sen revealed that she does not use her real name, Shoumitra Sen, "because it is so unusual."
Sen moved to Mumbai to first become a film actress. She was noticed when she auditioned for a Coca-Cola advertisement, impressing Priyadarshan, the director of the ad. Priyadarshan cast her in his hit film Hungama, establishing her in Bollywood.
She then played Amitabh Bachchan's and Hema Malini's granddaughter in the hit film Baghban. Her next big hit was the Yashraj produced Dhoom. Her next releases Phir Hera Pheri and Golmaal have been successful at the box office. Her latest release Dhoom 2, released on November 24, 2006, is another big hit, though she has very little presence in the film.
Rimi is now going by the screen name Rimii. She explains the name change as a career move: there are many other Sens working in Bollywood right now, and a single name may help her stand out from the crowd and stay apart from others.
Glamsham.com interviewed Sen in July 2006 about her work in the movie Golmaal. In the interview Sen said, "I play a sweet and beautiful girl in the film. The best thing that I like about the film is that though it has four heroes, I am the only heroine. Rohit Shetty is amazing as a director. He can make even a black African look pretty."
Ligali, an African British group, condemned her statements and said it showed "how normalized anti-African ideology is within Bollywood and its audiences. It would be unlikely that her racist comments will hinder her career or that of the journalist and media organisation that published this anti-African statement."
Jaspreet Pandohar, Bollywood film critic for BBC Movies Online, said that Sen's comments were "shameful but not entirely surprising. It not only reflects her ignorance of other cultures and belief that black people can’t be naturally beautiful, but also illustrates India and Bollywood’s long-running obsession with fair skin. The sad thing is Rimi probably doesn’t even realise her comments can be construed as offensive and maybe sometimes even racist . It would be practically unheard of a British actor making these kinds of racist comments in the open and to the media. She's currently still in Indian Cinema."

Indian Actress - Reema Sen
Reema Sen is an Indian actress and model.
Reema Sen was October 29,1981 in Kolkata, into a middle class family. She completed high school in Calcutta, after which her family moved to Mumbai. In Mumbai, she began a modelling career, appearing in a number of advertising campaigns.
Reema moved from modelling to acting soon after. Her first film was a low budget film, Chitram, in Telugu, in which she acted opposite Uday Kiran. Later she appeared in the Tamil film, Minnale, which was very successful. She tried to enter Bollywood but her first Hindi film Hum Ho Gaye Aap Ke flopped, and she decided to continue working in Tamil cinema. Her latest movie Rendu was also a successful movie in the Tamil cinema. Her facial expressions in the film Thimiru earned her the name "cute" and her horrific role in Vallavan gave her the name "extremely talented".
In April 2006, a Madurai court issued non-bailable warrants against Sen and Shilpa Shetty for "posing in an obscene manner" in photographs published by a Tamil newspaper. The report stated that the two actresses had failed to comply with earlier summonses for the same reason, hence the issuance of the warrants. The petitioner submitted that the paper had published "very sexy blow-ups and medium blow-ups" in its issues December 2005 and January 2006 issues, and which allegedly violated the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act 1986, Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act 1956, and the Indian Penal Code Section 292 (Sale of Obscene Books). The petitioner further demanded that the images should be confiscated under the terms of the Press and Registration of Book Act 1867.
Sen responded that she had not received any court summons and also discounted the charges. She further claimed that the pictures were freeze-frame shots from a recent movie that only exposed her navel. "As far as my photographs go, what is obscene about it? If navel-showing is obscenity, then our traditional Indian outfit - the traditional sari - should be banned in the first place."
In January 2007 outgoing Chief Justice Y.K. Sabharwal confirmed that Sen had written to him in order to enunciate guidelines against frivolous lawsuits against artists, but refused her plea on the grounds that she should have filed a formal petition instead of writing a letter.

Nimmi - Indian Actress

Nimmi (b. 1932) was a famous actress in the 1950s.
Nimmi was born in the small town of Fatehbad, Uttar Pradesh in 1932. Her mother's name was Wahidan. She came to Bombay with her mother who played small roles in minor films in the 1930s. Nimmi was fortunate to get a break in Barsaat (1949) through Raj Kapoor, where she played the role of a pahaadi girl. Soon she was working with heroes like Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand and Dilip Kumar in the 1950s. After Andaaz (1949), Mehboob Khan cast her in Aan (1952). With this she shot into stardom alongside Dilip Kumar, whom she acted with in Daag in the same year. In the late 1950s, Nimmi worked with renowned directors like Chetan Anand, Vijay Bhatt, and K.A. Abbas. As her career progressed, Nimmi delved into film production and started her own banner. She made the film Danka both as a star and a producer.
By the 1960s, Nimmi's career went under a cloud with all the new actresses coming in. Being a fan of Ashok Kumar, she never really got to pair with him romantically, despite starring alongside him in Deedar and Bhai Bhai. She made her last film, Akashdeep (1965) and left the film industry. She fell in love with screen writer S. Ali Raza, who wrote the dialogues for her films Barsaat, Aan and Andaz, married him and settled down. Her incomplete film Love and God which went through many difficulties during filming after the deaths of leading actor Guru Dutt and director K. Asif was released in 1986 in incomplete form.
Today, Nimmi lives next to her beloved Bombay seafront in Worli with her husband.
