The Top Ten Bollywood Actresses for April 2010

I haven’t done a top ten Bollywood actresses here in awhile, and I thought I'd do one, because when I looked for who was searched for the most on this blog, I was really shocked.
I expected Katrina Kaif, Kajol, Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit at the top, but that wasn't the case.

So here are the top ten most searched for Bollywood women on this blog recently....

1. Kiran Rathod
Yes coming in at number one was a lady that was a total surprise to me, Kiran Rathod.
This Bollywood and Kollywood actress is a lot more popular than I thought.

2. Lara Dutta
Indian actress, UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador and former Miss Universe 2000, Lara Dutta came in at number two.

3. Zeenat Aman
Yes, yesteryear star Zeenat Aman came in at three, showing tradition is alive and well in Bollywood.

4. Riya Sen
Indian film actress and model Riya Sen came in at number four.

5. Celina Jaitley
Indian actress and the 2001 Femina Miss India Universe winner, Celina Jaitley came in at number five.

6. Sayali Bhagat
Indian actress and 2004 Femina Miss India Sayali Bhagat came in at number six.

7. Priyanka Chopra
Coming in at number seven is a lady I expected to see much further up the list, Indian actress and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra.
8. Lisa Ray
The number eight lady on the list is a woman that recently beat cancer, and is going back to acting, Lisa Ray.

9. Tanushree Dutta
Another former Femina Miss India winner (2004), Tanushree Dutta comes in at number nine.
10. Mandakini
And finally, rounding out the top ten is a lady who is not actively acting anymore (but is evidently still popular), Mandakini.

“I was listening to myself being described in the most colourful language,” actress Celina Jaitley fumed last Sunday when she alleged that members of the Pakistani cricket team abused her after her performance at a cricket match between India and Pakistan. The petite starlet, most famous for emerging from the sea in a bikini and playing a violin in her debut movie Janasheen, wants respect: “They say I am just another Bollywood actress. Does that mean I don’t even command the respect that other women get?”

Indian actress Celina Jaitley turns prankster

MUMBAI, India: Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley played a practical joke on an unsuspecting New Zealand director by teaching him insults in Hindi language, a news report said Monday.

At a party during the recent filming of "Love Has No Languages" in New Zealand, Jaitley urged Kiwi director Ken Khan to greet Indian guests by saying: "Namaste, tera baap chor hain," or "Greetings, your father is a thief."

Khan fell for it.

"You should have seen the expression on the guests' faces when Ken actually said that to them. They were just stunned and did not know how to react," Jaitley told the Mumbai Mirror newspaper. "Of course, later I told the guests that it was a prank that I had played on him."

The movie about cross-cultural romance has Jaitley playing an Indian girl brought up in New Zealand who falls in love with Kiwi actor Ben Mitchell. The romance sets Jaitley on a collision course with her conservative parents who want her to marry an Indian.

Jaitley is among a growing number of Indian actors starring in overseas productions.

A beauty queen turned actress, Jaitley won the Miss India contest in 2001 and made her Bollywood debut two years later. She has since acted in more than 10 Hindi-language movies.

India's Hindi movie industry is known as "Bollywood" as it is based in Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay.

Five years ago when she walked the streets of Kolkata in her sneakers, Celina Jaitley would never have imagined that someday she would walk the streets of London with its Mayor in tow, cheered on by millions of people.

But that’s what happened when she was invited to be the chief guest at the India Now Festival over there. Which speaks a lot about the journey of a girl who studied in a Hindi medium school, mastered the art of fluently conversing in English, and slowly secured her position in the film industry.

“Today I can do a book on Hindi writer and poetess Mahadevi Varma and recite the dohas of Kabir, all in Hindi. I say, delve beyond the look to find the real person. Don’t go by looks,” said Celina.

Many Indian actresses are being signed up by Hollywood filmmakers. Aishwarya Rai, Mallika Sherawat, Kashmira Shah and latest Celina Jaitley are all take part in the rat race. Along with the global acceptance of the traditional Indian beauty, the foreign agents are also playing a big role in getting deals for the Indian actresses. Not only the actresses, even the actors are now attracting foreign filmmakers.

Nowadays Celina Jaitley is in news. After her international contract for a film she has again created a buzz to the media. PETA (People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animal) has asked Celina for their newest awareness campaign which she agrees to do.

PETA India, based in Mumbai, was launched in January 2000. They usually campaign for the animals who suffer in the zoos and circus and by their trainers. Many bollywood actors have signed PETA and doing the campaign for them. They have chosen Celina Jaitley for this newest campaign because she has a special corner for the elephants and according to PETA she is an animal lover and actively involved with some organization that collects funds for these elephants.

Celina Jaitley

Celina Jaitley (born 9 June 1981) is an Indian actress. She was crowned Miss India in 2001. She has appeared in several movies and music videos (including the Bombay Vikings' Zara Nazron Se Kehdo video). She was born to an Afghan mother and a Kashmiri father in Kabul, Afghanistan. However she grew up in different cities and mostly spent her time in Kolkata,India. Her father is an army officer and her mother, Meeta Jaitley is a former beauty queen. She has one brother, who is serving in the Indian army. She has said that when she was young, she wanted to join the army herself, either as a doctor or a pilot.

She was a finalist in the Miss Universe 2001 contest. In addition to her Miss India win, Celina has won the Miss Margo Beautiful skin, Indiatimes Surfer's Choice, and MTV's Most Wanted awards.
