Sushmita Sen and "Do Not Disturb"

Sushmita Sen,bollywood

The actresses in Bollywood must really be competitive.
I keep reading about their Diva like behavior and catty remarks to other actresses.
And they seem to be threatened very easily.
Even actresses that are famous for getting along with other stars are affected.
Case in point.....

"Inside sources from Do Knot Disturb claim Sushmita Sen is having sleepless nights over her role in her upcoming David Dhawan comedy Do Knot Disturb. It is a multi star cast film starring Govinda, Lara Dutta, Ritesh Deshmukh and Sohail Khan along with her.
Our sources reveal, “The film for the first time brings together two former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta. But Sush is not really insecure about her role being shortened as compared to a much younger and hotter Lara."

Of course it's not just Sushmita.
If you read this blog you've seen several similar stories about other Bollywood stars.

But it appears their fears are not unfounded.
Just recently Pantene ended a long relationship with Sushmita in favor of South Indian actress Asin.

Besides "Do Not Disturb", Sushmita is working on a Tamil film "Marmayogi" this year.

Sushmita Sen wants Brad Pitt!

What about other Bollywood beauties? Ex-Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen says if she were to accept any Hollywood mainstream films, then it would have to have someone like Brad Pitt starring in it.

After global warming, it’s Bollywood’s turn to warm up to the West. Ash has already done it and will soon be seen romancing Sir Ben Kingsley in a film based on the Taj Mahal. What about other Bollywood beauties?

Ex-Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen says if she were to accept any Hollywood mainstream films, then it would have to have someone like Brad Pitt starring in it. For the actress won’t settle for just ‘pitt’ance. But that’s what we like about Sush, isn’t it?

Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen plans autobiography

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen has decided to write an autobiography with the tentative title “The Butterfly.”

A former Miss Universe, Sen said she has already begun writing chapters, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

She said the inspiration for the title came from one of her favourite sayings — “what the world calls the end of a caterpillar’s life, God calls a butterfly.”

“I have written some portions of it,” The Times of India newspaper quoted Sen saying. “And yes, the working title is called ‘The Butterfly.’”

A model-turned-actress, Sen was crowned Miss Universe in 1994 and has since acted in 30 Hindi-language movies.

Sen plays a widow in an updated version of a Bollywood classic “Sholay,” or “Embers,” to be released this week.

She played a rock star in her last film, “Zindagi Rocks,” or “Life Rocks,” and a prostitute in an earlier movie “Chingari,” which also translates to “Embers” in Hindi.

A few understand silence, Sushmita Sen

Susmita Sen's quite moments are not so quite after all.

For someone as restless in spirit and body as Sushmita Sen, the deathly stillness of her character in Ram Gopal Varma’s Ramgopal Varma ki Aag was a revelation.

“I virtually had to tie myself down. It’s not that I don’t speak in the film. But, I say whatever I’ve to through my eyes. I’ve more still moments in this film than in any other cinema that I’ve done. It’s the quietest character I’ve ever played,” said Sushmita.

“It’s not that my character, Durga, doesn’t speak. It’s that inner tranquillity. And, hats off to Ramu for signing someone with a strong image like me to play someone like Durga ... it requires guts and hindsight. Ramu has both,” she adds.

Sushmita rewinds to Jaya Bachchan who played Radha in Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay. “It was one of the most difficult roles in Sholay. Jayaji was fabulous. Very few people in our cinema understand the sounds of silence. But, let me tell you, she played Radha, I play Durga. She was very passive. I’m very aggressive,” the actress said.

The Bollywood diva is a huge fan of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and is elated about sharing screen space with him. “I’ve stood in the same frame as Mohanlal. I’m honoured. To watch him perform is to watch a whole textbook on Indian cinema unfold in front of your eyes. He’s that brilliant.”

The film had to be renamed as Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag as Sasha Sippy, the grandson of G P Sippy who produced the 1970s hit, had problems with Varma releasing his film with the word Sholay in its title.

Sushmita is all praise for her co-star Prashant Raj. “He’s very good. In his very first film he has to stand next to stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan, Mohanlal and Ajay Devgan. That isn’t easy.” Tell her she has a head-start of at least seven years over Prashant, and Sushmita laughs, “Trust me he looks really nice with me.”

However, she has no scenes with Amitabh Bachchan who plays dacoit Babban Singh in the film. “Not this time. But, we had lots of scenes together in two films we did earlier — Hindustan Ki Kasam and Aankhen. In Ramgopal Varma ki Aag, we don’t come face to face at all.”

India's first Miss Universe - Sushmita Sen

India's first Miss Universe - Sushmita Sen Sushmita Sen was born on November 19, 1975 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. She is a well-known Bollywood actress and was India's first Miss Universe in 1994.

Sushmita's father is a retired Indian Air Force officer; her mother Subhra Sen worked as a fashion artist and jewelery designer. She has one brother, Rajeev Sen, and a sister, Neelam Sen. Her sister married IT consultant Nauman Malik, famous personality billionaire.

Sushmita's mother tongue is Bengali. She was born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh (DOB Nov, 19, 1975), but grew up in Delhi. She attended school at Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute in Delhi. In Delhi, she studied English and planned a career in journalism.

In 2000, she adopted a daughter, Renee, as a single mother.

In 1994, at the age of eighteen, Sushmita won the title of Miss India narrowly beating out Aishwarya Rai, who was the favorite to win the contest. In fact, both Sen and Rai were actually tied for the title. It was with a tie-breaking question that Sen won the rights to represent India at the Miss Universe Pageant, being held in Manila, Philippines.

At Miss Universe, Sushmita ranked third overall in the preliminaries, right behind preliminary winner Miss Colombia Carolina Gomez, and Miss Greece Rea Totounzi, who ranked second but won the preliminary swimsuit and evening gown competitions. Sushmita went on to place second, fifth and third resepctively in the swimsuit, interview and evening gown competitions, placing her in third place behind Miss Colombia and Miss Venezuela Minorka Mercado. All three women went on to be the final three contestants. In the end, the judges placed their votes on Sushmita, making her the first woman from India to become Miss Universe.

Sushmita's biggest rival at the Miss India pageant, Aishwarya Rai, would go on to win the 1994 Miss World contest.

After her reign as Miss Universe, Sushmita became a Bollywood actress. Her first movie, Ratchagan in Tamil, was a huge hit. Her subsequent movies like Dastak in 1996, where she played the victim of a stalker, too didn't do well at the cinema. But her appearance as Rupali in David Dhawan's movie Biwi No.1 won her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in 1999.

So far, her biggest hit has been the 2004 movie Main Hoon Na, in which she starred as Shah Rukh Khan's love interest. Later on, she played a lawyer in Main Aisa Hi Hoon opposite Ajay Devgan. In 2005, she also starred in a remake of Cactus Flower, called Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya: Sen played the lead opposite Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif and essayed the role of Ingrid Bergman. Her most recent movies include Karma, Confessions and Holi (2006) opposite Naomi Campbell, Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay (2006) and the recently announced Dulha Mil Gaya (2006) opposite Shahrukh Khan.
